About the Brand

Designing in 18-karat gold, Suzanne's custom-cut colorful gemstones and dramatically placed diamonds add a modern twist to the traditional design. Her signature Fireworks collection received international praise for its breathtaking design, which marries the chaos of scattered baguette diamonds with large custom-cut gemstones.

Suzanne developed the "Vitrine" concept, custom cutting gemstones flat on top and bottom in order to reveal a classic diamond panel behind the gemstone. Until today, Vitrine custom-cut continues to be an important design signature and figures prominently in the Fireworks collection, with some of the most glamorous and creative pieces showing off an explosion of scattered baguette diamonds behind large topazes and amethysts.

Beautifully manifested, each design is infused with a seesawing duality between symmetry and asymmetry.

The Suzanne Kalan collection has received tremendous editorial recognition by a variety of publications including, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Elle, W, InStyle, Brides, Martha Stewart Weddings, and many more. The line has also caught the attention of many celebrities and taste makers including, Rihanna, Jessica Alba, Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Mindy Kaling, Jennifer Anniston, to name a few.

Suzanne Kalan's signature collections continue to be revered by the jewelry industry. In 2014, Suzanne Kalan received the prestigious COUTURE Design Award for the "Diamond Below $20,000 (Retail)" category, for her 18-Karat Fireworks Baguette Diamond Shield Ring. In 2015, Suzanne Kalan received the Gem Diva Award from the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA), for her 18-Karat Fireworks Vitrine Necklace. In 2016, she received the award for "Best Everyday Jewelry" for her 18-Karat Fireworks Baguette Diamond Bangles at the Middle East Jewelry of the Year Awards.

Suzanne's Story

"I want anyone who wears my designs to be able to wear them today, tomorrow and twenty years from now."

Born in Lebanon with an Armenian family heritage, Suzanne Kalan grew up with a background in fine jewelry and an innovative vision for design. Suzanne's family has a long history in the jewelry industry. Her father owned a jewelry store, and she grew up working closely with him, learning about the business and jewelry design. Early on, Suzanne only designed jewelry for her friends and family. After a retail store approached Suzanne and asked her to produce a line of jewelry, she soon developed a loyal clientele that included department stores and jewelry chains across the U.S. Suzanne worked her husband Paul, who is a diamond-setter by trade, to launch the family business in 1988.

Well-versed in traditional jewelry techniques, Suzanne found her voice from the outset. Her designs implement long-established systems, while introducing unique concepts that challenge the rules of jewelry design. Suzanne's award-winning Fireworks and Vitrine Collections have been acclaimed by the jewelry industry for her signature use of baguette diamonds and her seemingly scattered settings.

Suzanne looks within while designing and sees bits of herself in the process. She is a wife, a mother, a friend, a business owner, and now a grandmother. Suzanne is kind, strong, confident, compassionate, fiercely independent and loves what she does. She is constantly evolving and finding ways to better herself while always thinking of everyone else.

Suzanne is currently based in Los Angeles, California, and continues to develop her collections each season with the hopes of inspiring others to use these physical pieces she creates and turn them into memories that will last a lifetime.

Patile's Story

With the start of the company, Patile would often be at the Suzanne Kalan studio after school, playing with gemstones and sketching. Over the years, she grew up working closely with her mother and father, learning about jewelry production and design.

After spending some time studying Biochemistry, Patile decided to change routes and join the family business in 2012. She leads the production team with her father, and designs the 14-karat collection, KALAN By Suzanne Kalan. Largely influenced by her passion for painting and geometric art, the line features an array of handpicked semi-precious gemstones including, opals, chalcedony and onyx. The designs capture classic and modern themes, as the colorful stones are accented with diamonds. KALAN by Suzanne Kalan is available in the U.S. and internationally, including at Liberty London, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue.
